Tips and Tricks That Will Help You Beat a Summertime Cold

Cough And Cold

We’re in the middle of summer, and there’s nothing better than being outside enjoying the sunshine. However, there is always one thing that can threaten your good time during the warmer months: the dreaded summer sickness.

No one wants to suffer from a cough and cold or go visit their primary care physician when they can be doing other summertime activities. But sometimes those achy muscles and stuffy nose can’t be ignored. Considering that one in every four Americans has suffered from pain that lasts longer than 24 hours, it is important that the pain subsides and you feel better right away.

So here are some of our best family doctor-approved tips that will help you get over that summer sickness right away.

  1. Drink up
It is important to stay hydrated at all times. This is so your body has the strength to fight off the germs and antibodies in your system, so always keep a bottle of water nearby.
  2. Get tested by an allergist
You may be mistaking your cold symptoms for allergies. Since there is so much dust and pollen swirling around outside during the summer, you may be dealing with a flare-up without you even knowing it. A quick trip to the allergist may be able to bring you some answers and a treatment that can make summer a bit more bearable.
  3. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies
Take advantage of the bountiful summertime fruits and veggies to get some extra nutrients. Fresh fruits and veggies will help to naturally boost your immune system to keep the colds at bay.
  4. Always bring hand sanitizer with you
We know that it can be hard to wash your hands if you’re outside away from a bathroom. But germs can be hiding on all surfaces, so a simple bottle of hand sanitizer can help you feel clean and germ-free without needing any water or soap.
  5. Don’t be afraid to head to an urgent care clinic
If your cough and cold symptoms don’t go away after a few days, make sure to head to an urgent care center to get a checkup. These centers are open outside of normal office hours so you’ll be able to go whenever is most convenient for you.
